The NewVS a modern computing system

Since 1985 I'am using the WangVS system. We developped our programs in Cobol. We made several released and I'am still surprised how modern is this system.

Modern because we are getting on the the NewVS thru the Lightspeed, a very low band consumming client, which is a great advantage when accessing the NewVS remotely.

Even when using a cellphone as a modem, it is fast enough to work confortably from your portable PC everywhere.

Early Days of Wang

You may be interested in some recollections from the early days of Wang. I ran across this site, put up by Harold Koplow, the microcode programmer for Wang, and father of the Wang Word Processing system.

I had a chance to meet Harold during my trips to Wang, in the 70's. He was as irascible as he is said to be. At the same time he was very open and friendly. When I met him, he was at a bit lower ebb because the VS was starting to eclipse the WPS and OIS systems.…

Some WANG Memories.

WANG is the only company I worked for that the boss had to tell the employees to go home. I often found myself at the office at 10PM and EVERYONE was still there, from the secretaries on up.

"What a tyrant of a boss you must have had", you say. Not at all! Everyone was there because they were so caught up in the excitement of Wang's success. NO ONE was asked to work late ever. They all simply lost track of time in the excitement of the office.

My experiance with the Wang VS

I worked for a Behavioral Health Care Company in Georgia for 20 years. In the mid 80's the company started installing Wang systems in all are old and new facilities. We had VS15's, VS65', VS75(E)'s. Once the VS5000 product line came out, we upgraded all facilities with them, approx 80+ including 10+ systems at our corporate office, used for production, testing, development, etc. One of the best systems I ever worked with.
