Question for members: should site content be publicly accessible?

Presently the content of this site is mostly accessible only to members. While this encourages joining to some extent, it also prevents site content from being indexed by search engines. I was just reviewing some of the blog and forum posts and realized (again) that this good content cannot be found by people searching the Internet. Note that public access will NOT reveal email addresses of members unless they have posted that information themselves.

So... the question is: Should I remove the restriction and allow public access to the content of this site?

OK, I changed it so the whole site can be viewed by the public. Let's see how it goes...

I don't think I can exert detailed control over what will be publicly visible and what will not. I do think I can prevent non-members from posting anything. In any case, objectionable material will immediately be removed. If going public proves more trouble than it is worth I can always set the site back to private.

I definitely would support Bernard's suggestion, however, being a very "old" Internet user, with a bemol: some parts of this website should be public, like an info page, saying something like "Wang systems are not dead" (I'm here of course summarizing :0). Then, interested people can register to access detail content.

I'm not keen on receiving more "info" about how to get a bigger dick, I get enough of them everyday 7/365 :0))))

Many people on my opinion are totally unaware of your existence, Thom, and who knows, this might help.

Effectively, it would be better to be indexed, so public access might be a good idea. But for posting an answer the user needs to be a member.
